Details are still a bit blurry, but according to eye-witness accounts, two unknown South American big-wave hellions have broken the 100-foot barrier, catching and surfing a sky-scraper-size wave off the coast of Chile’s Isla Alejandra Selkirk, several hundred miles off the coast of mainland Chile.
SURFER received the breaking news via satellite phone from a local Arica photographer, who accompanied the big-wave duo deep into the Pacific in hopes of scoring waves on what he called “Chile’s Cortes Bank.” The photographer was shell-shocked but managed to upload the accompanying photo of the two dropping in on the monster cold-water right-hander before stormy conditions terminated his sat-phone connection.

Tustin native Dennis Kemp has been riding waves most all his life, but in the last 15 years, he's perfected the art of making custom surfboards.

Kemp, now a North Tustin resident, started surfing at age 8. In high school, Kemp said, he made his first surfboard. The first few weren't great, he admits, but since age 16 he's become a pro. His garage is a display of colorful custom boards he's created, along with shorts and shirts with the Ohana Kemp Surfboards logo. Kemp created the company and garage display about 15 years ago, he said.

With the large surf and lower tides, the SANDBAR and the rest of The Point area took a horrible turn this morning.

DISCOVERED, ORIGINAL SAN ONOFRE PUBLIC TOILET!

A group of young marines last week found the original San Onofre public toilet while on manuvers. It has been missing and thought destroyed. It is legend that the first surfers would dig a hole and put this hollowed out boulder over it and sit or stand and do their buisness. The smaller stone at its right, was used as a step up for shorter people. When the hole became full they would remove the boulder, fill and cover the hole with dirt , and move to a new location a few feet away.

FOURDOORS TO BE RENAMED THIS WEEKEND TO "FORDDOORS"!

Vandalism at the Point

Sometime after 6:00 p.m. last night, vandals struck the recently dedicated Tubesteak Memorial, taking everything except the glove. Anyone with information as to the culprit should leave a comment. There is much sadness at the Point.

A motorhome being towed INTO San Onofre! Forget the guy on the right, I would have cut him out, but then you wouldn't get the full effect of Puttzles photo. THANX U.R., it was the greatest act of dedication I have ever seen to a surf spot! You also gave us a great laugh!

State Dedication

The State of California today announced that the impromptu 'sculpture' which has sprung up at the San Onofre State Surfing Beach Point will remain and be known as the "Tubesteak Memorial".

THIS HELICOPTER MADE AN EMERGENCY LANDING THE SAME MORNING AS SAN ONOFRE'S!
