I went to Velzy's this one time, he was asleep sitting up on the couch with his right foot up on the table and a bottle of Jim Beam next to his foot. Fran told me had a flare up of the gout and come back later when the pain subsides. I came back so he could autograph a LONGBORD magazine for a friend. Man I wish a picture of that foot with the bottle of Beam next to it!

  5. 'Tubers', Velzy should be pitied rather than scorned. He had ureac acid crystals running throghout his feet. He confessed it was the most painful thing ever endured.

  10. Ya gotta wonder if we would of done this when we were younger? I rode out of control at Sunset in the late 70'S. I was 37 then. Oh, see Hawaiianwatershots for the SUP contest video to see the waves that I and Jimmy Irons were out in by ourselves! Oh yeah, say stupid. The lines form the northwest were pulling over to Kamis. We are lucky we are alive! We got out and looked at each other and just shock our heads! Then, laughed our asses off! Smart ass surfers for thinking it won't happen to us?

  12. Butch and I surfed together up until he died. Hell we surfed in the 50'S and 60'S quite a bit. He was one hell of an athlete! Crazy, Yep! But a good friend. Too many great stories!
