Murph the Surff, that's Henry Ford during his heyday. Bert they had both wetsuits and leashes but you had to be gay to wear them. Way back when the only folks wearing a rubber suit were snorkel and SCUBA divers.
That is not Henry Ford, Henry was a Lifeguard at that time not a Gremmie. If they had leashes back then, they must have been made from Hemp Rope!(but I never saw a leash) And you are right, if you wore a wetsuit back then it was a "BEAVER TAIL"! (divers suit-top with the sleeves cut short and man what a under arm rash)
I remember that picture. I believe it was a 8'6" hobie they had cut down and reshaped to 7'6", and at the time Momma Weber (Dewey's mom) was making custom trunks, the board looks big because he was under 5'tall and weighed something like 90lbs! What a Gremmie, but he could sure ride that piece of crap.

OH MY GOD! He's not wearing a LEASH or a WETSUIT, but then he's the only one on the beach too!
They didn't have wetsuits or leashes back then numb nutts!
Now here is an appropriate candidate for photoshop.

Another obviously fake photoshopped photo.
The shorts look like classic Jansport. What size is the board and is that a single stringer?
R U positive that's not Bing Copeland, I think he's the stud who knocked me up.
I know, he's looking out at the submarine before it ran aground.
That dude's got back!
Rumor has it that Big Wave Dave has that surfboard in his collection.
That is the biggest butt I have ever seen on a young boy.
when referring to the late rick griffin add great.
I mean really, did the photographer tell the boy to hold his hand up like he was scanning the horizon and then say
now stick you butt out, no further, further, that's good, now show me love, show me love baby.
He is stickly his ass out so far that it's in another zip code.
You know, Puttzle, that's a pretty good explanation.
But I’m still working on the U Boat story and the diving photo and the sketch of Werner Drechsler. Somebody/somebodies have gone to a lot of trouble.

The Late GREAT Rick Griffin. I stand corrected Jerry.
Murph: Is that a cut down board? I dpes not look like it? HT
Yeah! Walner and I stripped a Hobie and reshaped it. You should have seen the rails, they looked like the logride at Knotts Berry Farm!
This is incredible
THANK YOU!
