Your Thoughts?

Caption says "Huntington Beach — Ann'e and J.P. Palmer from Arizona come to watch the U.S. Open of surfing every year with their 'Woody' doll." Original here.

Big Wave Reports - The Scam Exposed

The news reports were full of stories of the 20 to 25 foot waves that were hitting south facing beaches, stories that specifically mentioned San Onofre. I heard, I went, I saw. I waited in line for four hours to get in. There were plenty of people in the water. The waves, however, weren't even 25 inches, let alone feet. It just goes to prove that old adage, believe nothing of what you hear, and only half of what you see.

Memorable Picture

Because I am often seen taking pictures at San Onofre, people I don't even know ask me to take a picture of them surfing. I usually reply with something like "Well, do something memorable and I'll take a picture."

Surfing Calendar 2008

I ordered this calendar without seeing it. The description said that it was a "Surf's Up Boardriding Calendar." I suppose that is true, as far as it goes, but every month turned out to be a nude guy, or sometimes 2 or 3. Here's the mildest pose.

Did I miss some obvious "code words" in the description of the calendar or something? I ask because I am not the market to which this calendar is so clearly targeted. I mean, I remember when "gay" meant carefree, really happy, or joyful; and now it is a synonym for homosexuality. Did the meaning of "Surf's Up" or "Boardriding" change when I wasn't paying attention?

Meet Doc

Meet Doc. He comes to Dog Patch early in the morning to walk for his health. He's full of all kinds of interesting stories. He really enjoys sharing his views of a strict diet (organic foods, no sugar, no added salt, minimal fat) and a daily exercise routine; for which he credits his long healthy life. He makes his own beachwear. I agree his beachwear is different, but he's actually a very nice guy.
