NEW LEASE ON LIFE
sand bar is back, outer reef is uncovered, the dirt road will not be paved, life is good. The telephone poles acting as barricades could be removed allowing motor homes to be backed up to the water, and Tony's Market has agreed not to send his catering truck filled with munchies. Maybe, just maybe
camping will be allowed. Bldg. 1 thru 6 will have pocelean bowls for your comfort including germ free seat covers.

FINAL WARNING
Before long there will be 400 surfboards in the water at the same time. It is anticipated 25 riders will occupy one wave. The Rangers are at San Onofre Surf Beach to prevent alcohol consumption and ticket parking violators. It is the responsibility of San Onofre club members to clean open latrines
1 thru 6 five times daily. Boogie boards and canvas inflatable surf mats are encouraged at Old Man's while beach is open. Thank you for your cooperation.

SAME SCHITT DIFFERENT DAY
Bill Barnars, Hi Ho Silvers, Art Lavagnino, and a host of others. Now she's diminished to cherry-pit spitting contests, horse-shoes, bocci ball tournaments, anything divorcing itself from the sport itself. I wish I'd anticipated this when I spent hard earned money to join. It's too late now. There's no use crying over spilled milk.

Labor Day
Labor Day: How it Came About; What it Means
Labor Day, the first Monday in September, is a creation of the labor movement and is dedicated to the social and economic achievements of American workers. It constitutes a yearly national tribute to the contributions workers have made to the strength, prosperity, and well-being of our country.
Founder of Labor Day
More than 100 years after the first Labor Day observance, there is still some doubt as to who first proposed the holiday for workers.
Some records show that Peter J. McGuire, general secretary of the Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners and a cofounder of the American Federation of Labor, was first in suggesting a day to honor those "who from rude nature have delved and carved all the grandeur we behold."
But Peter McGuire's place in Labor Day history has not gone unchallenged. Many believe that Matthew Maguire, a machinist, not Peter McGuire, founded the holiday. Recent research seems to support the contention that Matthew Maguire, later the secretary of Local 344 of the International Association of Machinists in Paterson, N.J., proposed the holiday in 1882 while serving as secretary of the Central Labor Union in New York. What is clear is that the Central Labor Union adopted a Labor Day proposal and appointed a committee to plan a demonstration and picnic.

West Nile Virus: San Onofre
West Nile Virus is the most prevalent mosquito-borne disease in the United States. West Nile Virus is NOT going to magically pass over San Onofre. If you're planning on surfing, or being at, San Onofre near dawn or dust, your risk is much higher than at midday.
There is no time of day or night that is guaranteed to be safe. You should apply insect repellent containing DEET, Picaridin or oil of lemon eucalyptus AT ALL TIMES while at, or near, San Onofre. Apply it to all skin not covered by clothing. It can also be sprayed onto clothing for extra protection. Long sleeves and pants are strongly recommended. You are not in any way "safe" from mosquitoes when you are out in the water. The Great White Sharks at San Onofre don't scare away mosquitoes.
According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, people infected with WNV can develop a severe illness. Symptoms include: high fever, headache, neck stiffness, stupor, disorientation, tremors, convulsions, muscle weakness, vision loss, numbness and paralysis. Some people infected develop milder symptoms such as fever, headache and body aches, nausea, vomiting and sometimes swollen lymph glands or skin rash. Some will not have symptoms. West Nile Virus can be a life-altering and even fatal disease.
It is best to dump out water that has been sitting around in items such as buckets, tires, plant saucers, bird baths, pet water bowls and children’s pools. Mosquitoes only need a half inch of standing water to lay eggs. The eggs can hatch in as soon as two days!
Camp Pendleton officials are "taking measures to protect base occupants from WNV" by treating only large bodies of standing water, and they will do so on a 28-day cycle through October. If you take much comfort in this, you are not paying attention. Standing water by showers, bathrooms, drinking fountains, drainage pipes, ditches, etc., will not be treated. Mosquito eggs hatch in only two days, so that leaves about 26 days of virtually no protection, even around large bodies of water on the base.
I'm cautious not to tempt fate by saying "It can't get any worse a San Onofre," but you've got to wonder. And don't think you can hide from the mosquitoes. Most of then will be too small to see, only a few million will be as big as the San Onofre Mosquito (pictured).

You'll Come Because Of The Apocalypse, You'll Stay For The Sloppy Joes
And I beheld when he had opened the sixth seal, and, lo, there was a great earthquake; and the sun became black as sackcloth of hair, and the moon became as blood; And the stars of heaven fell unto the earth...And the heaven departed as a scroll when it is rolled together; and every mountain and island were moved out of their places. [Revelations 6:12-14]If you have a fear, there will always be someone willing to take your money and promise to save you. These guys near Barstow, California, promise to save you and serve you a diet including Sloppy Joes. You don't want to try to survive the Apocalypse on a diet of cream cheese in rolled tortillas, do you?

San Onofre to be developed?

Keep trestles clear of any kind of development including developed footpaths and tunnels and toilets and rangers and ranger buildings and lifegaurds and lifegaurd traffic, cars sirens, expensive salAried park employees and regulation of any sort. why are californians sitting by and watching their own infrastructure grow to the point of not being able to sustain it? why are californians letting the park system get so top heavy that it is closing the parks? why are we doing this type of construction right in the middle of the holy grail of surfing, and one of the nicest examples of a natural setting left on our coastline? lets fight this the way we fought the toll road. The "San Onofre Foundation" is trying to negotiate it's own long term vision , and quite frankly is a compromise too great for our immediate releif, and cost too much for future generations. TODAY; A FOOTPATH TOMORROW; PAVEMNT, PARKING METERS AND OVERCROWDING! contact the SANO ONOFRE FOUNDATION TO VOICE YOURSELF, MAYBE THEY WILL LISTEN??????????? www.sanofoundation.org/

ITS SPRINGTIME AGAIN

Mexican whiteflies suffer from an identity crisis, as they are not “true” flies at all. Their appearance resembles tiny, pure white “moths” but they are in fact, closely related to sap-sucking aphids. Aphid-cast skins can easily be mistaken for whitefly, but whitefly will quickly flutter up and fly away when disturbed.

AMERICAN HERO

It’s amazing how many times I have driven the road to San O and never once gave it a thought as to what Basilone road was named after. I did a little research and found out the following: Basilone Road is named after a Gunnery Sergeant John Basilone, (November 4, 1916 – February 19, 1945). He was a United States Marine who received the Medal of Honor for his actions at the Battle of Guadalcanal during World War II. He was the only enlisted Marine in World War II to receive the Medal of Honor and the Navy Cross. His story will be told during the new TV series called The Pacific.A section of U.S. Interstate 5 running through Camp Pendleton is named the "Gunnery Sergeant John Basilone Memorial Highway".About the TV series:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Pacific_(miniseries)About Gunnery Sergeant John Basilonehttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Basilone
