A San Clemente woman suffered severe burns when rocks that she had picked up at San Onofre State Beach burst into flames in the pocket of her cargo shorts last weekend, according to a report from The Washington PostThe Los Angeles Times, and KABC Channel 7 News, among countless other newpapers and television stations. Stay tuned, this story is going to spread like wild fire around the glode.

The 43-year-old San Clemente woman, who was not identified, was visiting the beach last Saturday with her family, and had collected seven colored rocks, Orange County fire officials said.

The woman had second- and third-degree burns on her legs, and her husband was burned on his hands as he tried to help her, fire officials said.

The Park Rangers put those rocks on the beach. It has become commonplace for parkgoers to illegally remove rocks, plants, park fixtures etc. So as a preventative measure they are placing these 'decoy' rocks for the people to steal. Rather than going through a long court proceeding they just burn up the thieving bastards.

Reports of the burning rocks spread to Europe, but don't mention San Onofre by name.

Funniest quote so far: Park Officials who claim that it "actually happened on the Marine base, " because "Lower Trestles isn't part of the State Park."

Interesting. That didn't stop the State Park from collecting HUGE fees for the permit for the surf contest just held there 2 weeks ago. Really? They issue the permit and collect the fees, but if there's a problem, it's not their property. Oh, how Amercians run for cover when someone might sue...and she will sue. You know she will.

?How can she sue when she is guilty of a criminal act that caused the problem in the first place? She stole those rocks from the park. She is a thief. Plain and simple. A yuppie thief no less. The worst kind.
