America the beautiful

North Korean leader Kim Jong-il has died of a heart attack at the age of 69, state media have announced.

Millions of North Koreans were "engulfed in indescribable sadness", the KCNA state news agency said, as people wept openly in Pyongyang.

KNCA described one of his sons, Kim Jong-un, as the "great successor" whom North Koreans should unite behind.

Pyongyang's neighbours are on alert amid fears of instability in the poor and isolated nuclear-armed nation.

Number One

If you use Google Image to search for "San Onofre Surfing Club," you will get, as the number one image, the Club's new logo, introduced in 2008. Thanks Google! And thanks to Puttzle for the last posting reveiling that Nineplus was using a logo almost certainly copied from the San Onofre Surfing Club logo. It's too late to see it on their webpage, as (according to a Surfer Magazine message board) within moments of the story breaking, the image on their home page was removed. A visit to their home page confirms that images won't load.

A/P San Diego:

The crisis at San Onofre deepened yesterday as food and water were found to be poisoned with lethal radiation, raising the threat of mass evacuation. The surrounding sea water was also contaminated.

Crops up to 75 miles from the damaged San Onofre nuclear plant were found to be unsafe to eat, and tap water in South Orange/North San Diego – home to 13 million people – will also been contaminated by fall-out.

Firefighters were still battling to bring leaking nuclear reactors under control.

Yesterday a collapse of the earth struck under the crippled power plant, causing further damage and hampering efforts to restore electricity in the hope of restarting the cooling systems which could avert nuclear disaster.

“Just throwing water on to the reactors, when they cannot get inside to see what the situation is, could mean the fuel goes critical again.

“And while the radiation leak so far is only a tenth of that at fukashima, that was in a rural area with a low population. at San Onofre it’s an urban, densely packed area so the potential numbers of deaths and cancers are much higher.”

And Oh yeah... Click on the ads.

Do You Still Beat Your Wife?

Paddy McCoy, an elderly Irish farmer, received a letter from the Department
for Work & Pensions stating that they suspected he was not paying his
employees the statutory minimum wage and they would send an inspector to
interview them.

On the appointed day, the inspector turned up.
"Tell me about your staff," he asked Paddy.
"Well," said Paddy, "there's the farm hand, I pay him £240 a week, and he
has a free cottage.
Then there's the housekeeper. She gets £190 a week, along with free board
and lodging.
There's also the half-wit. He works a 16 hour day, does 90% of the work,
earns about £25 a week along with a bottle of whisky and, as a special
treat, occasionally gets to sleep with my wife."

"That's disgraceful" said the inspector, "I need to interview the half-wit."

"That'll be me then," said Paddy.

Big Surf Means Bigger Danger

SAN ONOFRE (AP) - A surfer found off San Onofre State Beach in Southern California has been declared dead, as powerful waves continue to pound beaches across the state over the Labor Day weekend.

City News Service reports that Russ Yamada was found unresponsive in the ocean near his surfboard Saturday afternoon. The 42-year-old surfer from Torrance was taken to Saddleback Memorial Medical Center in San Clemente where he was declared dead.

They're Back

A group of mosquitoes collected from San Onofre tested positive for the West Nile Virus, a potentially deadly disease.

This is the first positive test for West Nile all year, according to a County Vector Control statement Thursday.

Mosquitoes often do not travel far from the sight of the infection, so residents of San Diego should be aware of the disease, said Chris Conlan a county vector ecologist.

Conlan said that people should always be wary of mosquito bites, but with the recent detection of the virus, they should take extra measures to ward off the bugs.

Mosquitoes are most active between dusk and dawn, so the CVC says to stay inside during those times, or wear long sleeves and pants with bug spray containing DEET, Picaridin, or Eucalyptus.

He Promised Change

President Obama has, in three years, increased the total national debt, built up in all the years this country has existed, by over 45%. That is real change.

National debt:
Sept 2008: 10.024 Trillion
Today: 14.580 Trillion

Our natinal debt now exceeds our national GDP. In fact, the national debt jumped $238 billion today, when the treasury reversed several crooked accounting entries which made it appear that our national debt was under the debt ceiling, when in fact it had been exceeded some time ago. That is real change.

Is it any wonder the stock market dropped 5% today?

State Park Rangers Patrol Military Base For Nudists - Your State Park Funds At Work

SAN ONOFRE, Calif. -- Nude beachgoers say they're being harassed by State Park Rangers after they were banned from San Onofre State Beach and moved to the nearby beach on Camp Pendleton. They say park rangers are following them onto the federal land forcing them to leave. There is no law against nude sunbathing on the military base.

They are closing down State Parks because of lack of funds. Why are they paying State Park employees to patrol a federal military base . . . on federal lands . . . to catch nudists?
