( From the Mayors Office) Please don't shoot the surfers!

What a morning at the Point! One of the Point locals was parked down at the LifeGuard tower this morning, when this Ford Pickup parks just a few cars away to the south. The guy gets out and begins to pull a surfboard and a small custom bicycle out of the back of his shell. As the local looks on thinking it was a normal site, this guy goes to the passenger side of his truck and pulls out what looks to be an AK47 assault rifle and begins to hold it at his hip and aims out towards the water and waves it back and forth as if he is shooting at the guys in the water. Well the local starts his truck and moves up to where the rest of us are parked and starts to tell us what he saw. The Mayor was shocked that someone would be that stupid to pull a gun out at Nofre and calls for the rangers. Well, it took Ranger L. 45min. to show up, and by then the guy had packed up and left, but while leaving he pulls up and stops next to the locals truck and begins to tell him that its only a BB gun! Then Ranger L. tells the Mayor to next time call "911" (this is BS because the Rangers are the Police at Nofre). About an hour later this guy comes back(what a stupid jerk) and this time parks down by Tiki Island. So the Mayor gets on his cellphone and again calls the Rangers. This time 2 Rangers show up, Ranger D. and Ranger L. and drive down to confront the gun waving nut. As we all watch from the Point with our Binoculars we see Ranger D. walk from the truck to the Rangers car with what looks to be an AK47 and puts it in the car. After about 30 min. we see the guy drive out, but gives us a hard look as he leaves. When the Rangers leave they stopped to tell us what went on, it seems the rifle was a BB gun, but the bright orange tip of the barrel that is used to identify a toy gun was painted black(which is illegal) so he was sited, the gun confiscated, and he was told to leave the beach. He is also a San Clemente local, whats this town coming to? Oh! And by-the-way, the surf was small but clean and very cold. Also for those who wonder where it went, the windvane surfboard is being repaired and will be back up and working shortly. More Later maybe--------

Hey WHINER, what's with the "*"'s??? We talk 'em engrish here.

There is something to be said about being selective with the surf sessions, and Murphy can be selective as he wishes.

There's an old adage, MURPHY WHO?

Wait a minute, is that part of a "knock-knock" joke?

Oh old longboard guy, shouldn't your name be old longboard gay? You can't be much of an old longboard guy, seems you never read old Surfer mags from the '60's or you know who Murphy is!

Sixties? What sixties? Get with it young fella'. That's 40 years ago. Cheeze!

Well longboard guru, if your in the water (which I doubt)and someone who has been surfing more than forty years is out with you, you better show that person a lot of "RESPECT"! Show respect for your senior and probably your better.

Did everyone miss the point??? It's unbelievable that it took anything like 45 minutes for the Ranger to respond to a "man with a gun" call. And then for the Rangers to send down a single car with one Ranger to show up in response - it's unbelieveably inept. As for the Ranger's response that the Mayor should've called 911, it's total BS! 911 cell phone calls from San Onofre go through the Highway Patrol. Then they have to turn around and call the State Park Dispatcher - which is what the Mayor did in the first place. The Rangers are supposed to be armed peace officers. If Sunday's performance is a typical example of how they're supposed to respond, we're not getting our taxpayers' (and State Park fee payers') money's worth.

"THANK YOU" Anonymous! I'm glad someone understood my point. Safety should be THEIR first concern,PERIOD! And "THANK YOU" too Unt, and it was great to see you!

Once again its shown that only the locals care about San Onofre, so why can't everyone who comes down to enjoy the beach and surf care? This guy could have shot up the place! We should thank the mayor for caring enough to call the rangers for the safety of the visitors.

If you want the Rangers quick, just say that there is a dog off a leash in front of the power plant. Maggie will be there in 45 seconds! Otherwise, doughnuts and video games at HQ is more important then a gun. Those who witnessed the incident should report it to Steve Long at SLONG@PARKS.CA.GOV

Steve WILL take care of it!

Once again, an inappropriate "identity" of "Otis Chandler", what poor taste.

By the way, do you know what kind of wood doesn't float? Natalie.
