Unscanned Version


Tustin native Dennis Kemp has been riding waves most all his life, but in the last 15 years, he's perfected the art of making custom surfboards.

Kemp, now a North Tustin resident, started surfing at age 8. In high school, Kemp said, he made his first surfboard. The first few weren't great, he admits, but since age 16 he's become a pro. His garage is a display of colorful custom boards he's created, along with shorts and shirts with the Ohana Kemp Surfboards logo. Kemp created the company and garage display about 15 years ago, he said.

The poor guy looks like a castoff of Gordies 'Hole in the Wall Gang' back in the day, also a member of the Oceanside Longboard Associatio. He is hard-core, alright.
