Big Surf Means Bigger Danger

SAN ONOFRE (AP) - A surfer found off San Onofre State Beach in Southern California has been declared dead, as powerful waves continue to pound beaches across the state over the Labor Day weekend.

City News Service reports that Russ Yamada was found unresponsive in the ocean near his surfboard Saturday afternoon. The 42-year-old surfer from Torrance was taken to Saddleback Memorial Medical Center in San Clemente where he was declared dead.

Big surf means big drowning. Tragically an untimely death took place near Trail 6 during the killer swell. Why non-locals attempt attempt surfing 40+ high combers is unfathomable. Most Club members can't swim a strok.

Anon', words well spoken. Why in heck would anyody even attempt to imitate such a silly endeavour as surfing anyway. Wht happened at Trail 6 was merely a warning.

Some guys over 40 can really surf. The others should get out and stay out!!!

10 over, we deserve a shot at it. atahe bloke at Trail 6 appareantky snapped his neki as he hit bottom. I wear a football helmut to cushion any and all blows.

The San Onofre man whose legs were severed and swalloe,d died on the beach at San Onofre CA. The 22' GWS is loose at the point at Old 'Nofre. Eurfers abd swimmers are told to be on the look out.
