The Paddle-Out

It was an absolutely beautiful day for Terry's paddle-out! There was a massive turn out of family and friends to say goodbye to Terry. Many great names in surfing were there to paddle out. From the past people like Paul Strauch, President of the Hawaiian surf Club and San Onofre Local, to the present with people like three time World LongBoard Champion Collin McPhilips paddled out to say goodbye to a friend. Sean Smith of SIMA (surf industries maufacturers assc. whom Terry thought the world of) came to pay his respects. And I would also like to thank Dick and Una Baker for a wonderful post paddle-out reception at their beautiful home. And last but only because we always want to save the best for last a GREAT BIG THANK YOU to The Points own Sheriff Bob for putting this all together and to let him know that Terry would have been VERY PLEASED!

And a BIG THANK YOU for all that came to say goodbye....

I hate coming to an event and then deliberately being left off the invite list to the "after party," in this case, the post paddle-out reception. Nobody mentioend that one to me.

I am not the other anonymous.

Ignored Anonymous, did you ever wonder why?

Dr. Ralph said...

You can be certain Anonymous, that it was not done intentionally.

Lonnie said...

Anonymous, were you invited to the paddle-out? Or did you just hear about it and show up! The reception was not open to everyone who paddled out, it was by invitation and the Bakers had the say on who went to their home. Stop crying, and don't take it so personnal because alot of Terry's friends from Nofre who attended the paddle-out weren't invited and I don't hear them whining.

Abe Lincoln said you can't please all the people all the time. Thanks for the kind words Murph. Wish you could have been there Puttzle. It was a nice tribute to a great man.

To anyone who wasn't invited to the reception and felt as if they should have been... obviously, some people may have been mistakenly overlooked, others may have been intentionally "not invited". It was NOT supposed to be an open house.

ATTN: Sheriff Bob, answer this with a straight face, where would San Onofre be without its ceremonial paddle-outs. Well, we are waiting.

hello nob, should it not be: "You can *FOOL* sone of the people some of the time, nut you can't fool all the people all the time?

Murphy:

I read about it. I read what was an invitation to show up. Did you see them posted at San Onofre on the restroom and dressing room doors?

I take some offense at your suggestion that I just "showed up" like I was some party crasher who showed up with only two things, a plate in one hand and a strong penchant for the contents of the host's liquor cabinet in the other.

Your posting did not say in any way that only some people went to / were invited to a reception. O contraire, it suggested it was all one big event. That is why I posted. And given your posts here on the topic of paddle outs for Terry and you not being invited/notified, I would say that you ought not to be talking about whinning, but then I guess you would be qualifed as an expert at it.

And I guess that you are now telling me that I was not a friend of Terry's as his friends are not whinning. Are you trying to hit below the belt? You need a swift kick in the nuts to bring you back down to earth, preferably face down and hard.

Thank you Dr. Ralph.

Okay Puttzle. I probably got even a bit more than that out of it, so you make a point fairly played.

I have a lot more to say, but it would go on and on and end on a much more unpleasant note, Murphy, which seems inappropriate given the honest thoughts, kindly rendered, by some.

But in parting, I would like to point out that I did not type anything in capitals or with exclaimation points or the like, much less 2 sets of 4 exclaimation points. I would very much hate to be a big jackass whiner like Murphy when he posted this on June 21, 2006:

"THANKS!
I would just like to THANK everyone who let me know there was a paddle out for Terry today at 5pm, which was absolutely NOBODY!!!!

Have fun this summer at the Point!

I'M OUT-A HERE!!!!"

Don't ask Nob, he don't know. Who's YIKES! is it then, Ralph?

Every dog has his day . . . to make an ass of himself.

I like you Murphy, but today was your day.

How short your memeory of your own whining about the very same subject was, and about the very same man.

Now, everybody laugh at everybody, and just move on.

There was a paddle-out notice posted at the Kiosk at San Onofre for all to see when they arrived to go to the beach. If you can't see or read don't blame the murf, it was not his place to see that the world new about it! And at least he has the balls to sign his name to the comment, you bunch of spineless wimps!

This paddle-out WAS posted, and maybe you should know the whole story before you start ragging on someone. Yes my feelings were hust, and if you would have read the rest of the blog you would have read that I did say I was sorry, but you just see what you want to see because you can't see past your own nose. Sorry you weren't invited, but then with all your whining I can see why!

~~angry preface deleted thanks in part to three Jim Beams and rocks~~

I would point out to you one difference, You did NOT miss out on the paddle out for Murphy because that one wasn't one for him.

I DID miss out on the after paddle out reception, and I know the Bakers, and we are friendly and I have been to their home before, and I suspect that if they had known I would be in town, they would have invited me. But as Puttzle would point out, the reception was not what it was all about. I came quietly, spoke with several I know, posed for a few pictures with people who hadn't seen me in a while, and then went down to San Onofre which turned out to be jammed packed with the Surf Club’s Luau at Old Mans.

This is my last post on this topic. Other posts claiming to be me, or appearing to be me, have not been. This is my third and final post. There are posters just trying to get things going more than they are. I am going to fold up my laptop and hit the road back home, after a gentle rest to let my head clear before driving.

I am not over this, but I, like you Murphy, am moving on and we have both had our say. I am disappointed that your "sorry" came with an insult, but I can see how that can happen with all these other posts claiming, or appearing, to be me.

I wish that I had just blown off not being invited, but when I read your post, it seemed that the reception was part of the overall planned activity, and it was too much for me to stomach. I now accept was not the case and I think you have little reason to write a 20 paragraph treatise on the event so that it could not be subject to any interpretation. I extend my apology to you Murphy.

Peace be with you Murphy,

and may the road rise to meet your feet.

I would just like to say that I had no say in who was invited and who was not. It was not my place to go around and ask someone if they were invited or not, I can only assume that everyone close to Terry was invited. I myself was quite shocked not to see some people I thought for sure would be there. I'm sorry you felt slided and as you pointed out several times, it hurts to think you have been left out. My post was not to "rub it in" so to speak, but only to thank the Bakers and Sheriff Bob, and all who showed, be it just the paddle-out or the reception. Tomorrows another day.

Who ever made that last comment I deleted and signed my name, I don't think it was at all funny. And the way the signature was highlited, I believe it could have only been done by a San-O Daze administrator. When someone does that they cross a line, I don't care how fucking funny you may think it is!
